On Eavesdroppin’ comedy podcast this week, Geordie & Michelle look at two musicians gone too soon…

Do you remember Avicii? The Swedish superstar DJ with number 1 hits all over the world? Geordie doesn’t, but this week, Michelle takes a look at his life and legacy and digs into why he was gawn too soon. Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, was one of the most successful DJs on the planet, yet by age 28, he was found dead in Oman, having taken his own life. So how did a kid from Stockholm become one of the most successful DJs and songwriters of all time? Why did he stop touring? And what were the circumstances in the lead up to his death? Listen now to find out!

Geordie then looks at the intriguing death of founding Rolling Stones member, wild man Brian Jones. On July 3 1969, Brian was found dead on the bottom in his Sussex country-house pool. Although the official cause of death was drowning by misadventure, the conspiracy theories are continuously cranked out as to what REALLY happened to Brian on the night of his death. Did handyman Frank Thorogood (yes, we know we call him Paul throughout the episode ????) murder Brian? Was he depressed and took his own life? Was he the victim of ritual sacrifice? Geordie dives into the heady rock n roll days of the late 60s to reveal a few of the more popular Brian Jones conspiracy theories….

So pop on your headphones, grab a brown lemonade and join Geordie & Michelle for this week’s episode, plus chit-chat about Glastonbury, Billy Bragg, lots of band recs and more, only on Eavesdroppin’ podcast. And remember, wherever you are, whatever you do, just keep Eavesdroppin’!

This week on Eavesdroppin’ comedy podcast, hosts Geordie & Michelle look at two rock’n’roll tragedies …

Anyone growing up in the 1990s will remember the beautifully talented yet maudlin musician Elliott Smith. Rising to fame and even being nominated for an Oscar for his song Miss Misery, which featured in the film Good Will Hunting, his songs were clever, insightful, sad and superb. He had the world at his feet, but a troubled past, alongside addictions and mental-health issues, led to the singer being found dead in his home on October 21, 2003. This week, Geordie looks at what happed to Elliott Smith. Was it suicide? Or was foul play involved? Listen now to find out more…

Michelle follows with a mini-dive into the life and death of INXS front man Michael Hutchence, inspired by Geordie’s recent look at Flame Fortune. In the 1980s and early 1990s, Aussie rockers INXS were one of the world’s biggest bands, with lead singer, Michael Hutchence, considered the ultimate rock star. Yet a fateful assault in Copenhagen changed everything for Michael, ultimately leading to a personality change, bad relationship decisions and his death in a Sydney hotel room. What happened to Michael Hutchence? Did he take his own life? Was foul play involved? Was it a sex game gone wrong? And what happened to all his money? You’ll have to listen to find out!

So pop on your headphones, grab a brown lemonade and join Geordie & Michelle for this week’s rock ‘n’ roll episode, plus telly recs, chit chat about silver lamé and more, only on Eavesdroppin’ podcast. And remember, wherever you are, whatever you do, just keep Eavesdroppin’!

Break up songs, Adam and the Ants, Kate Bush… Hold up, people – it’s the MUSIC EPISODE! Geordie & Michelle go on a rambling meander of memories, stories, thoughts and nonsense as they talk all things music and the time Geordie met a faded popstar. But first they start with a few apologies, namely Geordie’s atrocious spelling on the Potluck Party episode video trailer where she’s dancing and swigging brown lemonade… Or is she??? 🤣 Ben Mendels gets a shout out, namely because we’ve been sidelining him for Line of Duty chat, and a small discussion follows about whether Aussies still call a toilet ‘the toot’. No idea if that’s how you spell it, but the double o in ‘toot’ is pronounced like ‘look’ rather than the toot of a trumpet. Get it??

Then it’s onto the meat in the sandwich – MUSIC! Having both been in bands for most of their lives, Geordie and Michelle chat about music, songwriting, the creative process, their bands and how music has slipped away from them both in the past few years. Childhood musical loves from the 80s and 90s are revealed with Michelle’s obsession with Boy George making a questionable appearance. Geordie admits The Cure were responsible for her going through a gothy black-hair phase at school.

Geordie then recounts an excellent story about the time she met Adam Ant – and the moment she binned off an invitation to sing for Dave Stewart. Michelle rambles on about heartbreak songs and tries to explain to Geordie what a torch song is 🤣. Michelle rounds off the break up songs chat with a pathetic story of love and separation with Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U as the soundtrack  🤣🤣

The pair mention loads of golden oldies, tunes that have inspired them, random thoughts and reminiscing, while neither of them can remember Men At Work singer Colin Hay’s surname or the name of the song they supposedly really like (it’s called Overkill btw 🤣). Lots of links and show notes below so check it out plus a dubious Spotify playlist created for the ep!!! It’s a walk down memory lane that doesn’t scratch the surface of all the music they love so, there could be a part 2, just so you know… J
